The Opium Poppy FAQ

FAQ :: Poppies.org Community :: You edited/deleted my post. You can't censor me!

We have to balance our desire to keep things as open as possible with the need to keep this site around for the future. We are of the firm belief that the support structure that the forums provides is a valuable resource for preventing harm and promoting safe activity. There is a fine line between freedom of speech and breaking the law, and we will not risk that just because someone wants to use this site as a place to "score". If you are unhappy with the way things are run here, part of the beauty of the internet is that you're free to go and start up your own site. You're more than welcome to say anything you like on your own site, just not ours.

And that's why we have our forum ToS. And that's why we must enforce it, when we perceive any potential problems. Myself, grotto, and the moderators do our best to weigh the wants/needs of the community with the very real necessity to keep things within the realm of legal operation. We may have to step on a few toes in order to accomplish that, and not everyone may agree with our tactics -- but we do all of this to ensure that our community still has a home on the net not only today, but tomorrow too, and on into the future.

Remember, I'm the one who pays the bills and grotto pays even more with his blood sweat and tears by keeping the site afloat. The moderators are the ones who put in all of the time making sure this site is the best that it can be. Sure, we're human just like everyone else. Sure, we'll make mistakes from time to time. And sure, sometimes people won't agree with us. But everything we do, we do for the good of this site, and for the good of this community.

Anyone visiting this site is a guest in my home, albeit a virtual one. As such, they should behave accordingly.

I hope everyone can respect that. And if anyone can't, they'll at least have to live with it, because that's simply the way it is.
